Winter Moon
Klamath Mountains, Dunsmuir, California.
I just love winter. The snow gives the landscape such an amazing depth and who doesn't love the sparkle of freshly fallen snow? The ring around the sun here is called a Sun Halo and can appear around the moon as well. Halos happen when high, thin cirrus clouds are drifting high up in the atmosphere. Tiny ice crystals in Earth’s atmosphere cause the halos by refracting and reflecting the light.
