Cracked

Apostle Islands Ice Caves, Bayfield, Wisconsin.

The ice caves are phenomenon that happen infrequently and are not guaranteed to happen again next year or any of the years that follow.

The Apostle Islands are a group of twenty-two islands in lake Superior that litter the very tip of Wisconsin. They are a popular destination for Kayaking in the warmer months because of the many sea-caves that you can explore. But in the winter months, if it is cold enough, the water that slides down these cliffs freezes over and forms caves.

The ice takes on a multitude of colors and is quite the spectacular view. Brave visitors can even climb through some of the tighter ice caves that tunnel around the cliffs!

The caves were declared safe (meaning the ice of lake Superior is more than a foot deep) last Friday and where opened on Saturday, I along with 7,031 people ventured out onto the ice that day and we were blessed with a beautiful 25 degree day.
